On some of my computers I get the older green answers screens and on others the newer purple screens and format. Why is that and how do I choose one or the other?

We don't seem to be able to make the choice ourselves. It may have something to do with our cookies, YA's servers, our version of java and/or browser - or who knows what else. I had the purple version on my machine for several weeks, came to like it - then lost it and am back on the green, even though I am in the US. As far as I know, nobody has found a certain way to be on one or the other, except to use an alternate site like Canada for the green one, because it hasn't been converted yet.

Normally we don't indeed have a choice as to whether we want to use the green or the purple version, as long as we use our own country for logging in that is. But I found a simple workaround...
I am a German user, we too are forced to use the purple design since a couple of weeks. I've bookmarked YC, but after clicking that bookmark, I immediately go to "international" in the left column and click "Canada" since I prefer the green design, then log in from there. I found that once I sign in to Canada, I can click my avatar top right to get to my YC profile, and when I answer any questions in Germany, I'm able to use the old green design I prefer. Not sure why, but based on my experience I'd say you could bookmark one country which still has the green design and another which already has the purple design - then log in based on what you prefer, and you should be set...:-)
