is there something in UK different than US? whippets & bassets expensive to keep? my whippets rarely need to see the vet and most of the breed may go their whole life without any care needed save dinner....

No, it's not for real. The insurance agency that did that study is out to lunch.
Just look at how ridiculous the claims are:
£4,600 a year to take care of (that's $7600 USD, folks). If that were true, only the very rich could afford a Whippet. I know someone who has 5 Whippets, all shown in conformation, obedience, agility and lure-coursing, including extensive travel all over the US and into Canada to attend the various events, and she doesn't even MAKE $38,000 a year....plus she has herself to support....
And this made me fall off my chair laughing: £547 ($900) a year for grooming. A WHIPPET??? What are they doing, bathing him in gold or diamond infused water???

I have had Bassettes and Greyhounds, but no whippets and both of those breeds were mostly very healthy. I think they could mean genetic problems that plague some of the breeds that have closed loop breeding. You can have these in any breed of purebred dogs. Coursing dogs are a bit different than hunters. Basettes can have back problems,and Whippets can have joint problems if the get too heavy.

I doubt it. Loads of people in UK have whippets and greyhounds. Not more expensive than any other dog. My greyhound was really healthy until she was 15. Look at the source though, an insurance company. I think they are trying to frighten people into buying pet insurance.
If bassets get overweight they have spine problems - therefore do not let them get fat. Same with dachshunds.
