Morality of Transsexualism?

well....I guess if people could change their gender then perhaps there could be some argument as to it's morality, I don't know. the fact is though that's it's not ever been demonstrated that gender can be changed. transsexuals have been trying it for eons....trying to conform biological sex and gender....it's never worked. we just can't change our gender, it's innate, set in stone pretty much at birth.

my own experience pretty much confirms that. I was born with a perfectly normal female gender identity and a perfectly normal male body. I come from a family of love and compassion.....my family tried everything they could think of to conform my female gender identity to my male body and I did everything I could to help. we all tried hard, but it just could never work....I was born a girl and there just never was a doggone thing I could do about it. just like I can't change my race or my species....I can't change my gender identity.

by the grace of a loving God and a small group of very talented and committed scientists it did come to pass in my lifetime, though, that I could change my biological sex to match my gender identity. that was the day that changed my life....and of course it's anecdotal but it's all been for the better. I am a better person then I was before I transitioned....much better. I am a happier and more effective person than before. I am much healthier, calmer, less fearful, more empathetic, kinder and more understanding. if we could have changed my gender identity when I was very young...perhaps these things may have come to pass anyway...and it wouldn't have mattered that I was male....congruence is what matters most, that the body and the brain match. another way to ask your question might be this: is it moral to make yourself a better person if you can, eventhough some other people might not like how you do it?

I think a better argument might be made that it would be immoral to not accept such an opportunity.

If people were allowed to keep changing physical features about themselves, then were would it end?

Some people would carry it to extremes. Some people already carry it to extremes. Just google "unfortunate plastic surgery". However, you need to understand that we don't change sex (no one changes gender) on a whim. Not only is it expensive both in money and emotion but it's a deliberate process. If done correctly, a therapist is involved throughout. Believe me, we have seen what happens when someone who shouldn't transition does so anyway, and no one wants that to happen.

The bottom line here: I am hurting no one. Given that, I can't find a single moral argument against it....Show more

it's not a moral issue
it is a physiological issue


the root cause of this, is that the part of the brain that controls gender identity develops as if it were of someone who belongs to the opposite sex. The only remedy for this is the process of a sex change

think about it, why would someone go through all that trouble and put up with other people's nonsense unless there was something to it.

A legitimate question. But morality doesn't seem to be involved. The bottom line is: so what? If it makes the person happy, it's strictly voluntary, and no one is hurt or materially deceived, who cares? If you had actually been reading into transexuals you would know that sex and gender are two different things. Sex is physical and gender is mental. So they are not changing their gender they are changing their sex. Now society says that sex and gender must correlate, so when your gender doesn't correlate with your sex it may make you feel insecure about your gender so having that option to change sex may be comforting. Now I see what your saying about how other physical features are not changed, but have you found a way to surgically/medically change you skin colour or species? No you haven't, but we have found a way to change sexes. So until we are able to medically/surgically change race and species we are changing only sex to make individuals feel more comfortable in their own bodies.

And to the previous comment: Transexualism isn't a birth condition, that's intersex. EDUCATE YOURSELVES!...Show more
