Who pays for prom tickets?

Prom tickets are just over 150 per person. I asked a guy to prom so that would means I have to pay, but I don't know how I am going to ask my parents to pay over 300 dollars for that. My dress was already 300. I haven't even brought shoes yet either. I was planning on just buying my own ticket and asking him to pay his but I don't know how to ask him to do that. What do I do? Is it socially acceptable to request the invited person to pay all of theirs?

B.B Gun: they usually run from about 100-230 dollars.

Willy: I'm not sure it's appropriate to ask him to pay for mine too because I was the one who asked. I am totally willing to split and do my part-- just not sure about his.

Of course its okay to ask him. Personally I feel that prom is an important event, so it'll be worth it in the end.

$150!?! I think mine were $25 and that was considered outrageous.

Yes it's fine to ask him to pay for his own ticket. However you really should ask your parents to contact his parents about this since it's for them to say and not him.

The guy should pay. Tell him to hand over 300 large or else.
