How much should timing chain and detentioner replacement cost for 2006 acura tsx?

My acura dealer told me it costs me $925 to fix timing chain and detentioner. Am I getting ripped off from this place? Last month, they told me I need new tires and they quoted $900 while belle tire offered exact same tires for $370.

Problem with my car(tsx, 2006)  is that it sudden stopped working last night. Lights and radio works but car just wouldn't start so  I called my insurance company to tow it to acura dealer shop and they told me it's timing chain and detentioner problem. But what the hell.. $925 is way too expensive for old car like this. I called firestone and they say it costs $1150. Am I getting ripped off here or is that how much it suppose to be?

Your Acura is not old.  Probably not even half way through it's life.  And $925 is certainly within range of what a timing belt replacement might cost.  However, there is certainly no reason you have to have this service performed at the Acura dealership.  Call a couple of highly rated independent auto service centers for an estimate as well.  It's certainly going to be around $800 minimum wherever you go.  Don't just the tire replacement quote as a rule of thumb, dealerships always are much more expensive when it comes to purchasing tires.

Yes you are getting ripped off, but it is your own fault probably.
First of all, dealers always want to sell new cars, not fix older ones, so why would anyone ever take a car there once out of warranty.
Second is that you can easily find reasonable tires for about $100 each, almost anywhere.
And a timing chain should not fail on a car that new, (yes, a 2006 is an almost new car, only 8 years old).
A timing chain and tensioner should be only about $400 or so.
You need to find a good service garage that only does service on used cars.
