Case for Guild M-20?

Hi folks - another gear question! I really want to find decently fitting, reasonable quality (but not exorbitant expensive, preferably less than $150) for my two old M-20's. I tried Guild/Fender on the assumption that the GAD- M120 case would probably fit. They gave me a part number that turned out to be invalid, promised to find out the answer when I told them so, and then I never heard from them again. I also found some on EBay but they weren't tweed like the real ones apparently are, and the seller was unwilling to provide exact measurements.

I also ordered a Guardian archtop OO case from Elderly with the idea of repadding the interior (the M-20 is sort of between I and OO) but the shell was so sloppily made I had to return it (and Elderly gave me a little trouble about the refund, something I never would have expected from them).

So - does anyone have any suggestions? I don't really mind repadding, but I'm reluctant to spend too much if I have to do that, and by now I'm starting to feel a bit gun-shy.

I know about Cedar Creek, but ca. $400 for cases for guitars that seldom go out of the house ( and which cost me much less than that, back in the day) seems a bit much.

I'm going to get an estimate from Cedar Creek just to see. They say they'll give a discount on two cases, but I don't yet know how much.

At least with them I wouldn't have to worry about the quality not being adequate.

Unfortunately that is a kind of odd size for a standard case, and as you have already found out, custom cases can be pricey. For the price range you wish to spend I would recommend a very well padded Gig bag. Before you scream NO WAY! Keep in mind that there are some excellent gig bags available that will provide a better fit and ample protection for "guitars that seldom go out of the house". There are even some companies that will customize a gig bag to your requirements such as material, size,etc.

In case anyone else comes along with the same question, I'd like to add an update. Now that Guild has been purchased by Cordoba Music Group, Guild-branded TKL cases are obtainable through the Guild Shop. The Concert model fits the M-20 and is available in "deluxe" (that is, regular) and "premium" (that is, deluxe) versions. I ordered a premium model to check it out and it fits well, although there is a little sloppiness in where the lining is glued into the lid and the locking latch required a little persuasion to start working right. It was $190 but they offer free shipping. These may be the only new non-custom cases available anywhere for this model guitar.

The best resource I know of for cases for any type of stringed instrument is Elderly Instruments, 1100 N Washington Ave, Lansing Charter Township, MI 48906, (517) 372-7880.

Call them up with your instrument and a tape measure in hand and they will be able to recommend several cases, from the cheap 1960's style chipboard case, to aluminum flight cases, for any instrument, whether electric or acoustic guitar, banjo, mandolin, dulcimer, whatever.
