If Man mastered interplanetary travel?

Question

You are on a crew of one of the space missions to a planet similar to Tara Firma. 
It takes Months to get there and when you arrive, you discover an Earth like Planet that is about 2/3 the size of Earth.
On the surface you discover Sentient Beings, living in caves.
Speculate, What the scenario would be when you landed and contacted these beings. Would anyone be ‘tempted’ to act as ‘Gods’, or, instead, be Emissaries of knowledge?

I'm going to live in caves with them and learn from them... all the things this world of people seems to have forgotten.... how to live without killing the planet and using greed to take what's natural and profit from it. 
I don't believe it's always the "advanced" who have the most to teach and learn from.
