How rapidly is religion declining in the U.S.A,?

"Over the last five years the number of student “freethinker” groups in the US, has begun to snowball: from 100 in 2007 their number has leapt to more than 350 today, according to the nationwide Secular Student Alliance.

Their growth reflects a rapid shift in attitudes towards religion in America among young people, with one recent Pew poll finding that more than one third of Americans aged 18 to 29 now say they have “no religious affiliation”, compared with less than 10 per cent of their grandparents’ generation."

1, Are users here - whether theists, atheists or agnostics - aware at the speed with which
religious affiliation is dropping among young Americans?

2. The figures are accurate. Do not waste your time and ours by disputing them, please.
You might like to give your personal opinion as to why faith is diminishing so rapidly.
(It would be of interest, if you could identify yourself - theist, atheist, agnostic.)

Check out the Pew report.

The young folks in the USA are not going for religion or political parties. They ain't going to be told what to think.....

They are also not marrying and having children like their parents.
And if they do have kids, the kids are not being brainwashed into a religion.

I know that according to the latest statistics Christianity continues to grow in population in the U.S.
It may be that the number of non-religious is growing faster - but Christianity is growing, not declining, in population.

Evidence (see page 5)

Your evidence only indicates that young people eschew religious belief - not that religion is in decline. My evidence shows plainly that Christianity, at least, is *not* in decline in the U.S. (Nor are some other religions, as the data clearly indicates regarding Islam and Judaism.)

Not rapidly enough.. I mean, take a 10 second gander at Fox News.. That is proof enough that we Americans are simply retarded enough to still believe in such trivial things like religion..

It's not growing as rapidly as athiests say it is. Last I read atheism stood at less than 1% of the earths population. You people are dreamers.

The number of non-denominational Christian churches has been growing for some time.. What is your point?
