Question about hybrid cars?
What are some pros and cons about hybrid cars? I'm thinking about getting one since I'll be traveling a lot for work and wouldn't be able to afford to if I kept my current car (gas guzzler).

Cons: The added expense of the hybrid system does not make sense for people who drive less than about 10,000 miles per year. Hybrids are mostly not suited to any sort of towing. Honda has had a devil of a time with their hybrid system - a tradeoff between battery life (a real problem for Honda) and fuel economy (ditto). Some shops don't feel comfortable working on hybrids.
Pros - the fuel economy, at least for the Toyota hybrids, is true. My wife gets 50 mpg town or highway in her 2010 Prius. Again for Toyotas, the reliability is spectacular. The two of those combine to produce very low operating costs, way less than half the cost per year compared to anything else we have ever owned in 40 years. My 12 year old Prius, far less reliable than the 2004 and later models, has not needed any repair besides a 12 volt battery (last year), windshields, tires, and wiper blades in 174K miles. The brakes are original. Acceleration and braking, no matter how many miles, is unearthly smooth. The 2010+ Prius has the same 0-60 time as the US Delorean DMC-12 (10 seconds).
We have 3 Prius in the family and we are in heaven. Gasoline is no longer a factor in our budget.

Hybrid cars get their best mileage around town at low speeds where the electric motor is used more often, not doing lots of highway driving.

You will get a lot better gas mileage. That is the main consideration.

they are good on gas. bad thing is when the warranty runs out, you might want to get rid of it, cause if anything breaks on it, it's going to cost an arm and leg to fix.
