What is the difference between the lens and pupil?

They look exactly the same to me, so I'm just confused. Is the lens covering the pupil or...?

The pupil is the black dot in the middle of the eye.The pupil enlarges and shrinks as the amount of light in the immediate surroundings changes; this allows more light into the eye when the environment is dark and allows less light into the eye when the environment is bright.

Behind the iris (coloured part of the eye) sits the lens. The main function of the lens is to focus light onto the retina (the part of the eye that perceives light). The lens becomes thicker to focus on nearby objects and thinner to focus on distant objects.

So to put it even simpler.
1 - Pupil changes size according to lighting conditions.
2 - Lens changes thickness according to the distance of what it is focusing on.

the pupil is the opening for light. the lens sits behind the pupil and is used for focusing (e.g. long and short distance focus)
