If you pick the right type of shampoo for your hair and proper handling you can wash your hair whenever you feel it needs it!
The American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) recommends for those with oily hair to wash it more frequently. They inform that hair wash frequency should be based on how much oil the scalp produces. Some straight or straight-wave hair types experience high oil distribution while frequent hair washing is common (3+times a week). Those with more curly, colored or processed hair may need less washing as oil doesn't travel so far down the hair shaft; and these hair types tend to be more dry and need shampooing less(1 to 2 times a week).
African Textured hair is more porous and should be washed less frequently to prevent it from breaking (1 to 4 times a month) according to FashionHairExpo.com endorsed book ‘African Hair Growth Secrets.’

I know nothing about YOUR HAIR, but I wash mine when my bangs starts to get greasy. Wash it everyday, if you're using hair products or live in a polluted city.
Washing less often, builds the natural oil your hair needs, to get them smoother, shinier, silkier, softer. Man-made products are just temporary, until you wash them again, and at the same time washing off the natural oil your hair NEEDS. Hair products just absorb on your hair if they're dry, like a sponge.
Works for me, but it may not work for YOU.

every other day is suggested. But many wash their hair every day (as do I). Don't not wash it for more than 2 days though - that's sort of gross haha

Every day. If you live in the tropics, maybe even more often.
