Why is the plot of "Mr. And Mrs. Smith" always described wrong?

People always say "It's about a husband and wife who are assassins hired to kill each other."

Wrong...

It's about a husband and wife who are assassins hired to kill THE SAME TARGET, yet unfortunately find themselves firing at one another.

Even right before Jane shot John, she clearly said "Ugh, civilians."

The plot is now set on these two believing one another must've been hired to do so, but obviously they find out it was a simple mistake in the end.
