Interested in the flight paramedic program?

I am new to my unit but I have already made up my mind, that when I re-enlist, I want to drop a Flight Medic packet and forward it with the Paramedic program. My question is, as a certified EMT-B holder, how challenging will it be to be able to attend the Paramedic course, which I believe is only 6 months? Is that program still available in the Army?

I remember the EMT portion at my 68W AIT was challenging so I'm curious what I need to consider prior to tackling EMT-P as well as securing my F3 ASI. I understand I have some time before my re-enlistment window opens up again, but if you could share some insight it would be most helpful. Thanks.

You don't have to wait until re-up time to drop a flight medic packet. You must be 2 years out of AIT to do so though. Some posts offer a EMT-P program, but with funds drying up, it is almost impossible to get into it, so you might as well not even think about that.

If you struggled with AIT, you will struggle with flight medic school. You are allow ZERO fails on a test. There is no retaking a failed portion. If you fail one single test, you fail the school, and you're sent to a new duty station according to needs of the Army (which could include going right back to where you came from). If you make it through flight medic school, you go back to your same duty station, but to the aviation unit (unless your duty station didn't have aviation, in which case you go somewhere needs of the Army).

I finished the Paramedic portion of the course a month or so ago. The course itself has a 95% pass rate. It is 8-5 every day and then there are portions of the course where you will be away from school for a week or two doing clinicals. You are definitely allowed to fail a test you will just have to retake it. It is difficult starting out but after a couple of months you get an A-Ha moment and everything makes sense.
