When you say we "gave away" $269 billion dollars to "the rich" what does that mean? When a person earns money and pays all legal taxes on it, she should be able to spend it or give it to who she wants, not to have it taxed a second time. It is not constitutional to tax a tax.
Gave money or did not take it? I am fine with government spending on certain items, but I just want everyone to contribute like they do in Canada. We have so many people in my state of NY who pay nothing in taxes and keep demanding more and more. My poor grandfather was paying $4,500 a year in property taxes on a $52,000 assessment. That is in addition to the highest income taxes which include the highest burden on the rich and the highest taxed population in the nation. Now, where does it all go? To the connected it seems. The Democrats send billions in tax credits to Hollywood and you don't say a word? They send $500 million to Yahoo and you say nothing? They send Billions to IBM, HSBC, Solar City, Sportservice, and guess who says nothing?
I assume you are trying to tie this to the Amtrak disaster a few days ago. No evidence... so far... to indicate it has anything to do with infrastructure. Most likely it was either human error or mechanical malfunction. But for the sake of argument, since the cuts were YESTERDAY, how would that have made any difference?
Anyway, to once again blame funding cuts is very premature.
Can you tell us why you feel the country as a whole should pay for a non-solvent, heavily subsidized commuter rail in the north east? If it is so great, wouldn’t the people of PA, NY, and DC be happy to pay higher fairs to fund it?
