Dirt bike shifting?

I was on my dirt bike the other day and it didn't sound right. I thought I was in 3rd gear but for some reason I was in 4th gear. I stopped to see what the weird sound Was and I shifted down 3 times thinking it was in 3rd. I think I bumped the shifter up because I was riding in ruts and rocks. So I shifted down to second and restarted. I took off in second gear instead of first. Is this bad? I have a crf230f by the way.

Nothing wrong with taking off in 2nd gear.
That is how racers leave the starting gate.
They hold the throttle wide open and pop the clutch.
