Can you take food in a cooler on an airplane?

My sister is visiting from California and I really miss In-N-Out. Can she bring some in a cooler?Or will the airline not allow her??

The cooler would have to be her carry-on or personal item and would have to meet the requirements for the size of those items.

Ice packs in the cooler must be completely frozen in order to go through security. If they are partially melted packs, or if there is any liquid in the bottom of the cooler, then they will not be allowed through. This information is available on the TSA website - www.tsa.gov

There is otherwise no problem with bringing food in a cooler.

DRY ICE is considered a hazardous Product on Planes. You need to check with Airline for what they will allow.

I do not want my Fido riding in the same luggage compartment as your package of Frozen Carbon Dioxide.

Now how long will It take from Burger Joint to flight to you? If you must FREEZE them Wrap in newspaper place in cardboard box. (SMALL ONE) Paper is an excellent insulator. Good for 6 to 12 hours.

Heat in COVERED Bowl in Microwave. Add a FEW drops of water. It helps to steam it.

YES you can have Food in a Cooler.
The Cooler COUNTS as your luggage. For carry on it has to fit and have no liquid inside.

As checked Bag it can be larger and stuffed with more Burgers.

Paper wrapped many layers and in a shoe box in your suitcase works too.

Only if the cooler was small enough to meet carry on requirements
Or she could place the cooler in a box and send it as checked baggage

In-N-Out is fresh prepared and does not keep very long. Even after a couple days it goes downhill fast. But really, there are great burgers available all over the place.

Mind you when I go to Vegas or LA, I get me some In-N-Out too. It is one thing I miss badly from moving away from LA. But we have Five Guys and Fat Burger here and some really good independents.

A cooler is allowable. I'm assuming she is going to check it in as checked baggage. If you want to cool it, dry ice is ideal for this situation. (Keep the dry ice under 5 lbs.)
