I'm interested in trying out for cross country for my sophomore year and I was wondering if it was hrd. I see many people saying that they can run a mile in like 5 minutes. I can only run 7 to 8 if I try hard enough. Today I ran one fourth of a mile in one minute and forty three seconds and after I basically started gagging like for real. And cross country is several miles!
I am a freshman I think you should do it. The first couple of weeks it is a little hard because you are getting into shape. You should do it, not everyone on the team is that fast. On my team there the 2 mile times very from 12 min to 21 min. By the end of the season you will be running faster then you do now if you do it. It is also a great way to make friends on the team.
Don't be afraid to try. It's not hard, it just needs determination. 7 to 8 minutes is a solid time! The average for a person to run a mile is actually 12 minutes and that's IF they are healthy. Personally, I run at 5.50 a mile but I love it, it's one of my favourite hobbies. Just remember. Don't push yourself all in one go and make sure you perfect your running style before taking on the world if you want to :)
You will get better with regular practice. Go for it. Don't expect to keep up with those kids who have been running for years at first. Do your best and be open to suggestions and constructive criticism from fellow runners and the coach.
