Why are college students so liberal?

A lot of them share very liberal ideas and policies. I've seen this all the time. Why is this?

Modern universities are unilaterally liberal. The professors are liberal, the interests of the university are liberal, and the young minds molded in that pro-liberal world are going to be molded toward a liberal direction without outside influence.
And in a way, that's kinda alright. College is very safe, very uplifting, very focused on expanding a student's sense of hope and potential and inspiration. If we crushed the dreams of these kids under the heel of reality the same way the world crushes our own once we exit the academic safety bubble that surrounds their happy little world of consequence-free alcoholism, fornication, procrastination and intellectual deuchebaggery, then the poor chumps might never be free enough of pessimistic realism to ever actually TRY to change things. And I know you're going to say, "Yeah, but how many college students do anything other than graduate, get a job at MacDonalds and then spend the next 10 years looking for entry level positions in their major before settling for an electrician apprenticeship?!" Yeah, there's a lot of that. But the fragile geniuses- the dorks from that Big Bang TV show, for example - they need the freedom of liberal thinking in order to survive and thrive and even be productive. All the horror of the failure of leftist concepts in the practical world are absent in university, where imagination and hope are actually the most important factors not only for personal success but also for grand academic achievement. Seriously, would Edison have invented the lightbulb if he had to work an 8 hour job every day before getting home and getting back to his electric light hobby? No. No. And that's why college kids are liberals. The only shame is that a lot of them stay that way after college...

It's funny because in my University there is a trend: I go to the main campus and most are liberal and have Macbooks. Then, I go to the Engineering campus of my University and everyone is either republican or libertarian and on average do not have Macbooks. I have no idea what Macbooks have to do with being liberal but it's apparently connected. Also, most professors are liberal (except those I've encountered in the engineering campus). I'm guessing smart and successful people are less likely to be brainwashed liberals. Maybe that's why the simplicity of Apple products is to attractive to a audience consisting of simpletons?

Why do you generalize? Perhaps you will post for us where you got your facts??? While it is true many colleges nowadays are much more liberal than in the past, we still have some strong minded students who think for themselves.

I assume you don't mean bible college.

Well, young people are optimistic and have been trained to believe that bullying is bad, to play fair on the field, that what counts is how hard you try, that we should reach for our dreams. Having recently been through massive personal changes, they believe that others can also change. Having just developed their intelligence, they are fresh and confident that they are developing innovative ideas about liberty and goodness, etc.

In other words, they are smart and as healthy as they are ever going to be, therefore less inclined to be sour, defeated, disappointed people in a rut looking for scapegoats.

Unfortunately, most of them have been brainwashed by the media, the Kardashians and Obama into this way of thinking. From a current student in college, I apologize for my peers' ignorance.
