Scared about going to first GYN appointment !?

Hi. So my mom recently told me that I am going to have my first GYN appointment soon. I'm really nervous about that. I've never been to one before! Btw I'm sixteen. What do they usually do when you go for the first time? What should I expect? I don't see why I have to go. I don't have any reproductive/period problems. My cycle is pretty regular and so are my periods. But I can't convince my mom to not make me go. :( what should I do about this? Are these kind of appointments weird?! Idk I just think it might be awkward because like from what I've heard they look at your vagina and stuff like that but I'm not totally sure. Any advice for me?? thanks

You shouldn't have to go, and officially you don't need to and this is not recommended for your age. I think you should stand up to your mom. If you can't do that, tell the doctor you are only willing to talk, and not willing to undress or be examined, and be firm and say no. I refused an unwanted pelvic exam at 16, and said no when the doctor ordered me to take off my pants, etc. There is no medical reason for you to have this exam and it is your body and your choice.

What you should expect is to be asked to get naked, for a breast and pelvic exam, and maybe a rectal exam. But you can and should refuse these things if you don't want them.

All they'll do is ask you questions, check your blood pressure, give you a pelvic and breast exam, and give you a pap smear.
