Have a flat screen, cable box and home theater. The dialogue is very out of step with the TV. I am not very techno but I try. Ideas?

It would have helped had you bothered to tell us the make and model of the TV and of your home theater system.

Without knowing those facts, all I can say is that the usual connection to send audio from the TV to a home theater audio system is with a digital optical audio cable running from the TV to the system.
