Adding 9v battery to circuit board?

Question

Hi I'm building a fuzz pedal and the PCB has a +9v power component and the wiring diagram shows how to connect a DC jack to it. But I want to use a battery instead of an adapter. I'm new to electronics though I've done a bit of research so far though I haven't been able to find this specific information.

Is it as simple as connecting the positive end to the PCB and sending the negative to ground? Or is there something else I have to do? On the pedals I own I see that the 9v battery leads are connected to the PCB but the particular PCB I'm using doesn't have that. Only a single hole for a +9v, which is shown to connect to a DC jack in the wiring diagram.

So any help on if I can simply connect a battery here or what else I need to do would be great.

For most of these things, what you have described can be done.  My only concern might be that the power drain may eat up batteries quickly.  Typical alkaline 9V battery has ~500mAh of lifetime at a 15mA drain.  So if your circuit draws 15mA of current, the battery will last something like 30 hours.  At 30mA, 15 hours, and so one.  If the circuit takes 100mA or more, I'd say 9V battery power is out, as the voltage may droop too much even if the battery isn't drained.  OR, 9V would have to be created with larger cells, like perhaps taking 6 AA batteries or even D cells and making the 9V that way.

find a DC  jack that  fits in the hole
hook that to a 9volt snap connector
make sure that the polarity is right.

plug the adapter to the board.

The +9 connection is to the isolated center wire of the jack - the body of the jack (sleeve of the plug) is the negative and is connected to the mounting holes for the jack which should have PCB paths leading to it.
