Maybe, but I don't think people watch the Super Bowl simply for the ads anymore because the ads in recent years have been pretty lame. It's proof that corporations are pandering to the morons in this country instead of people who are capable of coherent thought and making informed decisions.
If you doubt me just check out the ad campaign that Sonic has run for the last 4-5 years -- the one who two homos in a car. I haven't stopped at Sonic since it began because they're stupid, so Sonic doesn't deserve my business.

No, it shows that Corporate America has turned an event based on sports into an event based on 'entertainment' which features an important half-time show, commercials, music, and, oh by the way, some football.
If it was only the game, think of how many fewer people would watch. It's now an event, where all genders and ages are invited because it's so much more than football.
It's not Americans being brainwashed, it's the American business cycle commanding a worldwide audience. Those guys are smart with their branding.

I don't know about corporate brain washing. Many like the Super Bowl commercials for the entertainment value. Especially when a 30 second ad spot during the game is going to run an excess of $4 million dollars.

No, because the reality is that for years companies ran their best ads, and NEW ads, during the Super Bowl. Seems it went down hill back when they let the fans make ads. Can't remember which corporation did that, but it really seemed to be the end of it. You also have to remember that these weren't ads that were run every day afterwards either.

Nah, because super bowl commercials put an emphasis on funny. It's kind of its own unique thing that way. I think the market drove that more than the corporations did and it became a competitive thing. Part of why they do it is because it costs so damn much to have a superbowl commercial.
