Those little bubbles that say "sent" "delivered" and "read", can you actualy see a message without those bubbles telling the other person you have looked at the text? My girlfriend is playing mind games with me and im trying to figure this out

Yes, you can. You need a third party browser extension called Facebook Unseen (linked below). It blocks the JavaScript that Facebook uses to update the status (seen, read, etc) of messages when you read them. The only drawback is that it also prevents you from marking the message as read (it'll always show unread when you go back into your Facebook account).
