New belly piercing and surgery?

I just got my belly button pierced a month ago, but now I have to have surgery on my ankle. It can't wait, it has to be done immediately, but I don't want to take out my belly button ring and have it close up. What can I do?

see if your piercer can swap it out with a plastic piece and then change it back after the surgery
