Hello, my little kitten is sneezing since I brought him home. I remember someone telling me to put a little eucalyptus oil on a cloth where he cat can smell it will stop the sneezing and prevent an upper respiratory infection from occurring. But I m finding mixed info on the web about it s safety for cats. Anyone know?

Eucalyptus is considered toxic to cats. And even if it wasn't it would not stop an infection from occurring. Keep watch on the discharge - if it's clear, it's viral and he just has to work through it. If it becomes discolored - tan, yellow, or green then he has a bacterial infection and needs to see the vet - and right away. A kitten that age can go downhill very quickly.
Do NOT give any over the counter medication to a 7 week old kitten - not Benadryl, not anything. You risk poisoning a young kitten and will spend more than the price of a proper vet visit by rushing him to the emergency vet. The only safe "decongestant" for a young kitten is steaming up the bathroom by running the shower with all hot water, or running a vaporizer (plain water) in a room with the door closed.

Any time you pet is not just right it's time for a Vet call. Your kitty could just be at the beginning of something big which can make your kitten go down hill real fast. If a cats nose and sinus is plugged up they can not smell their food and then they will not eat if they can not smell the food. Take it to your Vet and ease your mind. Good Luck!

Anytime one of my cats are sneezing from allergies or a cold, you can give your cat a small amount of liquid allergy medicine. Diphenhydramine is the ingredient in the liquid that clears up the sinuses. You will need a syringe without the needle to give to your cat. Only give about 1/8 to 1/4 oz. of the liquid. Diphenhydramine is actually benadryl. My vet has told me to give to my cats when sneezing.
