Nikon lenses that have an internal ultrasonic autofocus motor are marked with the AF-S spec. With Sigma, it's HSM. Tamron marks theirs with USD or PZD.

Lenses from Nikon that have a non-ultrasonic autofocus motor is indicated by the AF-I spec. With Tokina, Sigma and Tamron, they are unmarked.

IF is a feature that keeps the length of the lens constant during focus. It's not an indicator of the presence of an internal motor.

Any Nikon AF-S lens has the built-in autofocus motor your camera requires. Likewise with any Sigma HSM lens. The Tamron might, dependent on the model number.

Here's a webpage with the full list of lenses that are 100% compatible with your D5300.

Hope this helpsl

Why not just ask your dealer.

If he can't answer, find another dealer, but your camera is designed for AF-S lenses, and HSM is Sigma's equivalent.
