If you mean the seriously good Nikon AF-S VR Zoom-NIKKOR 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/449088-USA/N...
that is a better lens than the
Nikon AF-S DX NIKKOR 55-300mm f/4.5-5.6G ED VR
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/729938-USA/N...
Better cornner sharpness, and faster, more accurate autofocus.
It is more front heavy than the 55-300mm, but even that one is heavy enough that you need to invest in a seriously good medium to heavy duty pan head.
If you are comparing the cheapo Nikon AF Zoom-NIKKOR 70-300mm f/4-5.6G
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/207359-USA/N...
waste of money.

The lens compatibility information you seek is in your camera user manual on page 63.
I suggest you read it. Lost it? Download it here: http://download3.nikonimglib.com/archive1/mIIJL00a...

Yes.
Make sure the lens also has the AF-S or AF-I spec so that it will autofocus with your camera. If none, you will be force to focus manually. AF (only) or AF-D will mount and work but no autofocus.

Your manual has an entire page dedicated to which lenses fit your camera - read it.
