This is what I never got about Christianity is how they say that Jesus is God but he is also the son of God

There is one God. There are three persons in God. Each is God; each is not the other.

That is a adequately precise definition of God in Trinity. The answer to your question that falls out from this is that the Father is God; the Son is God; the Father is not the Son. God is not his own son.

God his own son?

What?! That's ridiculous.

God is not his own son.

God is his own father, dummy!

You want me to explain the Blessed Trinity? Glory be to the Father who created us, Glory be to the Son who redeemed us, Glory be to the Holy Spirit who sanctified us as it was in the beginning is now and ever shall be world without end Amen! A picture of the Blessed Trinity was when John the Baptist baptized Jesus. There was Jesus rising up from the water with the Dove (symbol of the Holy Spirit) and the voice of the Father saying "This is my beloved Son in whom I am well pleased"
