This is what I never got about Christianity is how they say that Jesus is God but he is also the son of God

There is one God. There are three persons in God. Each is God; each is not the other.

That is a adequately precise definition of God in Trinity. The answer to your question that falls out from this is that the Father is God; the Son is God; the Father is not the Son. God is not his own son.
