Best way to transport my goldfish?

I have a 5 or 6 inch long, 1 or 2 inches wide big goldfish at my ex step dad s house. He has forbidden me to go to the house because of a really messy situation (he s basically guilty for something and is hiding because of it and the cops are involved). He put most of my other belongings in storage, but obviously the fish is still at his house. I am moving into a new apartment with my mom, 20 minutes away by car. I need to know what is the best way to transport the fish, and how do I get the new tank ready for it. My brother (who still lives where my fish is and agreed to help) has to be the one to put her in a container and I have to be outside of the house. I want to know the size container I need. I know I need to fill it a little with its water, but how high should the water be, and what are the chances of the fish dying? The tank is too small for it, and I have a bigger tank waiting for her, so I will not be taking it with me. Please, help me. I ve lost almost everything. I don t want to lose my fish.

You will need a large, clean container with a tight fitting lid that will hold at least 2 gallons of water, preferably more.

I suggest getting the new tank all set up before even loading her.  If you can get a gallon or so of water from her existing tank and mix it into the new tank that would be best.  If it's possible to have the water in the new tank cycle for 8 weeks that would be best, but goldfish are pretty tough.

When you do the tranport you should use water from the existing tank to transport.  You could take that water a day or more early so it's ready, using clean water to remill her tank.  Go directly from one place to the other, no stops. You don't want her to get warmer or colder than usual.  When you arrive at the new tank if it's not so full you can immerse the whole transport container in it you could do that and slowly, 1/2 hour at a time do a water exchange so there is no shock of one water to another or one temperature to another.

Go to your local fish shop / pet shop and 
Ask them for some big fish bags,
The ones they give you when you buy fish.
They should give you these for free.
Put some water from the fish tank into the bags and catch the fish
And put them into the bags.
Fill the bag up with a bit of air and tie a knot.
Just to be extra careful put on another bag around the bag the fish are in
Just in case of any leaks

Do you have a igloo or a ice chest? You can put it there and as long as the fish can freely swim around, your good, as long as its temporary
