What “type” of person would be most likely to venture forth across the Appalachians into the frontier?

What could have been so appealing about these new lands recently wrested from French control?

People who wanted to have their OWN farms.
Remember, the biggest industry at that time was farming.
And it took a lot of land to be successful.
If you were a farmer, like your father and his father before him, and you heard of free land out west, of course you would go.
