If you are working now. An the way America is and all. Will you ever get to see Retirement?

I will, I am 60 and only a couple of years from early retirement. I may not be able to retire early if there is no affordable health insurance option at that time. Currently, even with the increases in Obama care, it looks affordable. And for me I have the option of continuing my coverage through my employer - which is expensive - but affordable until Medicare kicks in. Social Security is expected to be able to meet all of its obligations during the fist 15-20 years of retirement so I am not worried. And it will be there for future generations, just not as generous if they do not increase funding. So instead of getting $3,000/mo in 2035, a recipient might only get $2,400 if nothing is done. I expect that before medicare gets in serious trouble (it's already in a bit of trouble) the entire system will be replaced with a single-payer, payroll tax funded system). They will try to 'fix' Obama care, but it won't really work without law that requires everyone to participate. It won't be repealed, because everyone recognizes what that it does what is needed. So it will be replace by universal single payer - a kind of 'medicare for all' that does not cover 100% of everything leaving a bit of the market competing for elective services and supplemental insurance.

I have only myself to blame for the late start. Partying was just too tempting when I graduated highschool. I'll be able to retire at 60-65. Would have liked to retire at 55 but some people won't get to retire until their 70's so I don't feel as bad.

Well I am only 21 so I have quite a bit left before I retire. I am not even looking into retirement anytime soon! And yes eventually I could see my retirement if the Lord tarries.

I'm planning to retire at 55 from my full-time job, but I am also planning to work part-time forever because I can't see not working, it's just not a part of my make-up. We own several businesses, and they are our retirement plan.

And, so, if you are concerned for your retirement prospects, what are YOU personally doing for yourself to see that you will be able to make that a reality? It's up to you.

I assume you mean if you are working in America.

What way is America and all that would impact my retirement in twenty years or so? Do you think, anyway?
