Guys, we are considering to use walkie talkies as our communication tools in a mining area which is not covered by internet of any mobile network. So walkie talkies are good alternative for us. is anyone know the range of 2 walkie talkies can communicate? Pplease give me any idea which one is the longest range. Thank you in advance.

Depends. Out in the open, like in Kansas, with no building in the way, they can cover two to three miles. In a place like New York or Los Angeles, you'd be lucky to cover two city blocks. Get your ham radio license and then use 2 meter handhelds.

Even professional walkie talkies will not have much range if one person is in the mine and the other person is above ground. You really need to consult with your local two way radio company to get some advice on what you need. If you just go buy a pair prepare to be disappointed.
