I have no Idea.
I do not know ANY conservatives that are for ELIMINATING the social safety net.
We are just against it's continued expansion for the purpose of Vote Buying by one party using EVERYone's money..
Then once you get everyone hooked on the assistance, you just tell them that the other guys just want to take it all away. It sounds like a LIE, but most ppl just can't take the chance, so they vote for YOU.
But getting back to your question, the Fallacy is that EITHER side has a Solution to Poverty. Even Jesus said "The Poor, you will always have"
Now while the USA has great income Disparity, we ALSO have the Wealthiest Poor People on the planet.
And still, the best social program ever invented is a JOB.
John de Witt
You don't have to be conservative to figure out something so basic. Small businesses can't grow because of government over-regulation. No growth, no jobs for the poor.
It's a little more complicated when you talk about "services," because there are so many of them. Generally, though, it's often a matter of government warping the economy, helping a few of the poor and as a consequence choosing more of the poor to be losers.
KNEEL BEFORE ZOD!!!
Exactly what "protections" and "services" are helping the poor? The US Government has been involved in a so-called "war on poverty" for over half a century, and we have MORE poor, MORE people on food stamps, etc.
The #1 ticket out of poverty is a good JOB...not Big Gubbmit welfare.

Conservatives do not want to "reduce poverty" they're all for it because it benefits their rich man corporations and their rich man bullies that own the private prison industry. Why reduce something if its making the rich richer? They're all for policies that keep the poor poor...eliminating abortion as one thing...they love their poor plantations.

Everything the government gives to the people it must first take from them. Government has never stymied the proliferation of poverty in any country throughout human history. Instead, its overreaching presence has invariably been the cause of penury.
