So I tried hooking my PS4 up to my new asus monitor using hdmi to vga and it kept a picture for a few seconds then went black and said "vga no signal" never could get it to work again. I'm curious if I need to use the dvi instead or if the monitor is no good?

for the thousandth time, PC monitors are NOT for PS4, XBOX One, or any other video game system. they are for PCs, that is why they are called PC monitors, and why they are sorted under Computers on walmart, bestbuy, and other stores' websites.
you NEED a TV for absolute compatibility with your video game system...
