Conservatives are "hung up" on Chicago becasue it is President Obama's home state. Also, they fear that President Obama's former chief of staff, Rahm Emanuel, who is the current mayor of Chicago, may run for a higher office. And finally, Republicans seem to target cities with high populations of African Americans. I'm not sure why that is.

You're right. But according to your own first link, the cities with the highest murder rates also have 1 thing in common.
Care to guess what that one thing in common is?
It's that they all have large black populations. Every one of your top 5 murder cities has a mostly black population.
Maybe guns is the wrong issue to look at. Maybe ethnicity is, regardless of how politically incorrect that is.
