Am I doing the right thing?

Our maid and her daughter got a puppy from our last litter
The dog went missing yesterday and they found him dead presumably poisoned and then thrown over the fence to their house
It's absolutely horrible what happened and I want to help them by buying them a new dog
Is this the right thing to do or should I do something else (and yes they said they will gladly take anew one and they are heart broken)

I would not send another dog to that house unless they find out exactly what happened to the first dog OR they come up with a good plan to protect the new dog.

You are kind and have a good heart. Go ahead and get them a new dog. Good Luck to them

Dog 2 buying is bulshit if you can't take care of Dog 1

If the dog was killed off the property, then they were letting it run at large. That is not responsible ownership. I would not get them another dog.

Another pup may be killed in the same manner. Don't think their neighborhood is safe for a dog. Especially a pup that has not been poison proofed. They must let the dog out by its self & is not supervised, They need to keep the dog in the house & only supervised when outside. They may not be the right kind of people to own a dog. Do they have about a thousand put away to take care of the Vet charges for the first 6 months of this puppies life? To get it's shots, wormed, Vetted, spayed/neutered, chipped will cost them about a thousand bucks, unless you pay her so little that she would qualify for low income & could use AHA's low cost Vet clinic.

If dogs are being poisoned in their neighborhood, I would not replace the pup.
