Winchester 1200 12ga choke questions?

Just got my 1st 12 guages. I ve fired shotguns before, but am totally new to chokes.
It came with a full choke. What can be fired through that?

I d like to have everything needed for a variety of hunting and/or shell types.

Ic choke is short range, full is long. I get that much.
But buckshot or slugs, can they pass through a full choke, or do I need the ic or m chokes?

no, to what part of the question?

i'll just put some light bird shot through it for now. got extra full, modified and improved cylinder on order for it.
but need some details on what can pass slugs and buckshot, if any.

have a legal length sawed off rem 870 for home defense. not gonna try to use a 28" barrel in a tight area.....

thanks for the info.

The makers generally recommend IC for slugs. For shot you'll have to define what you are doing and learn about patterning your loads.

No, I would NOT fire slugs through a full choke barrel. If you want to shoot slugs, change the barrel to one with "Cylinder" or "Improved Cylinder" choke. READ the attached article...

Generally speaking, slugs and steel shot are best fired from a modified choke. Pretty much anything else is up to you, and will depend on how much pattern spread you want at say, 30 feet or so.

My home defense shotgun is modified choke. Of course, with defense ranges in your home, you may be shooting a max of 10 feet. Choke doesn't really matter, as the pattern doesn't scatter much in 10 ft. I use modified to accommodate slugs, or 00 buckshot without having to worry about damaging the barrel.
