How soon after you have birth can you get pregnant? Like are we talking 15 minutes or like a month?

Two things need to happen before pregnancy can happen again.

1. The woman needs to heal from having the baby. Typically, that takes six weeks. Doctors will strongly urge women who have just had a baby not to have sex for six weeks. That doesn't always mean that they listen.

2. She needs to start ovulating again. Ovulation stops during pregnancy. After pregnancy, it takes some time for hormones to balance and ovulation to start again. This can be as short as just two to four weeks or as long as a few months. If the mother is breast feeding, sometimes that also keeps ovulation stopped.

My husband is ten months older than his younger siblings. So, pregnancy can happen very quickly have the birth of a baby.

There's not a woman alive who could bear to have sex 15 minutes after giving birth, silly. Her vagina and her cervix would be raw and sore, and would probably have small tears. The physical pain she would experience from some guy sticking his penis inside her would be unbearable!

A woman isn't supposed to have sex for at least 6 weeks after she gives birth, or until the doctor tells her that she is completely healed internally. After that and after she begins ovulating again, then she can get pregnant at any time.

My ex husband was a teacher who once had two sisters as students. They were 9 months to the day apart

Women are not supposed to do the bone dance for 3 months after giving birth. After that length of time they can get pregnant again.

"Among women who aren't breastfeeding, periods usually kick in six to 12 weeks after delivery; in nursing moms, the average is between four and six months. But some women can conceive sooner, while others begin ovulating later"
