Road trip next week, haven't driven in winter for long time.?

Question

I'm not sure what to expect; heading from south FL to around Nashville, TN.

I've been watching the weather and it looks like this week/week end is going to have some dangerous conditions along the east coast, but in looking at next week it seems that things should be better (40's/50's).

I'm planning to leave Mon, going up I 75 most of the way.

I don't have snow tires, am I going to need them? Would it be risky to take the trip without snow tires?

The heater on my car doesn't even work-- I know that's not going to be comfortable, but is that going to cause any safety issues (I have rain X to keep the windows from fogging & plan to bundle up).

It's been 18 years since I've left FL between December & March, trying to remember how bad winter driving can be. Any advice?

Yeah, not in that vehicle.
Rent something for a week- bythe time tyou get yoursef stranded and pay for roadside service or hospital bills, you'll save money. Better yet, take a Greyhound bus instead.

You're talking about going into a part of the country that often has ice storms and very bad weather, and going into that unprepared is simply irresponsible. Going with no heat so you have no defrost is just deadly - and I happen to know that getting it fixed is more money than a car rental or a bus ticket. You absolutely CANNOT go with snow tires, either.

Don't take your vehicle. Take a bus or rent a winter-ready car. 
Winter weather is deadly, and you dn't know what you're getting into.

You've got to get that heater fixed
Start by buying 
* A Prestone backflush kit
*  two gallons of antifreeze
* an el-cheapo antifreeze tester
Backflush your cooling system per instructions.
Since drinking antifreeze is fatal to all living things make sure that you're flushing your system into a sewer and not leaving puddles of it on the street.
If that gives you heat , then use your tester to make sure that your mixture is good to 0 F 
If that fails then get a 12v plug in fan that you can aim.at your side of the windshield
As far as the road goes my experience is that weatherwise coming through Chattanooga is the worst part 
So be careful
