I just pour a can of my favorite chili over cut up crunchy lettuce. Voila... taco salad

For the salad I mix vegetarian refried besns or black beans (either what's in the pantry, what the kids have eaten or my mood), lettuce (Romain and/or iceberg as we often have both), tomatoes (canned or fresh; we always have canned on hand but will pick up fresh if we plan ahead or they are marked down), guacamole, salsa, sour cream (for my husband and older two kids) and cheese (Daiya vegan for my two-year-old and me and dairy for my husband and older two kids.) My husband and I top it off with hot sauce.
It might not be old-fashioned but we like it.
We use either whole wheat tortillas, tacos or tortilla chips.

Our family uses Doritos and Catalina dressing, along with a meat sauce with kidney beans. Pretty delicious and can eat two plates' worth.

Eh.
I think they sell them tortilla chip flecks in bags, but I don't know where to find them in a store.
That would be part of it I would think.
