Don’t know what kind of tree I should plant?

I live in Idaho and in a mountainous area. It’s rocky because of a valcano that erupted a long time ago. Anyway I really want to plant a shade tree here but unsure what type of tree would thrive here. So anyone who knows Idaho knows it’s either really hot or really cold. Bad winters happen here as well.

Help??

Mulberry Trees, both Fruitless and Fruiting varieties grow between zones 4 & 8. Fast growing, Excellent Shade, shallow rooted, in some places the roots will run across the surface to reach pockets of soil. .

You need to talk to an arborist or nursey. The key isn't just your soil but the planting zone you live in. Idaho has several different planting zones. What thrives in one may not survive in another.

Go to a local nursery and talk to them about what kind of tree would be best for your climate and situation.

Think about if you want a tree you have to water, what kinds of tree barf you're willing to deal with (some trees drip sticky stuff, some trees have helicopters, leaves in fall, pine cones, etc.), how close to structures it will be, how big it's safe for it to get, whether the root structure could damage building foundations or concrete work, etc.

Lots of things to think about when planting trees. You will have them for a long time and they do require care...some more so than others.

Good luck!

Visit a good full-service nursery and get advice.
