Why won't the control screen on YouTube go away like normal?

I was watching a couple videos on YouTube earlier and the control screen that lets you play/pause, etc just stays on there and won't hide like normal. I tried everything in this thread here https://support.google.com/youtube/forum/AAAAiuErobUw4C7IhHUGL0/?hl=en
and nothing has worked. What do I do??

That is so annoying . It blocked the subtitles and you can't read them it's happened a few times with me usually you just tap on it and then it'll minimize for sometimes it doesn't work
