Homework math problem?

Hello,
I'm having trouble with the steps in this equation, how do you solve this type of an equation?
With a tailwind, a aircraft can fly 204 miles in 2 hours. Against this same wind, the aircraft can fly the same distance in 3 hours. Find the effect of the wind and the average airspeed of the aircraft.

speed = distance/time
204/2 = 102 mph
204/3 = 68 mph

The speed of the aircraft without wind will be the average of the 2 speeds;
(102 + 68)/2 = 85 mph

102 - 85 = wind speed of 17 mph
check:
85 - 68 = wind speed of 17 mph

Aircraft 85mph
wind 17 mph

Distance = rate * time
w = wind
a = airspeed
204 = 2(a + w) With the wind
204 = 3(a - w) Into the wind
102 = a + w
68 = a - w
170 = 2a
a = 85
w = 17
