I wouldn't expect the next generation of consoles (e.g. "Xbox Two" and Playstation 5) to arrive until 2020 at the very earliest. And even if the next generation arrived tomorrow there are still all those games on the Xbox One you can play, even online, for the foreseeable future. Even most of Xbox 360's games are still playable online.
The only reason to wait would be to see if Microsoft announces some sort of bargain for the holiday season. It probably won't be much - like a free game or something.

go ahead and get one. while they are working on next gen consoles already for Microsoft, i don't think we'll see them for at least two to three years, if not closer to five.
if you're not a hardcore gamer, who needs 4K gaming, the Xbox One S will do fine for casual gamers. you can find those used for around $200 at various places online. it can play all Xbox One X games, including those backwards compatible on 360 and now original Xbox. xbox.com has the official list.
as long as you have a 1080p HDTV, you'll still get great visuals and graphics from said games on the One S.
maybe wait a month for the holiday season, and get a great deal or bundle package with the One S.
