Is it just me or are there not enough Costco's in the U.S.A.?
It seems like every time I go to a Costco it is super busy there, it makes me wonder why don't they build a lot of Costco's.

They like it that way. New ones cost a ton and they pull business from other stores.
That said, I wish we had one on my side of town.
I can't get in Sams but I can get in costco with a gift card despite not being a member. Which suits me fine because I only go 8-10 times a year.

Super busy means profitable...having a cashier just sitting there is a waste of money...

They don't build a lot because it's too expensive. The prices are low and the wages aren't (compared to places like Wal-Mart), so they can't make money without keeping it busy.

There are none in my state.

Their business model requires their stores to be super busy. If they had more stores, they'd have to charge more. When modelling a business, you have to weigh up volume with profit. Costco shift a lot of merchandise with a small mark-up for each. If each product sold involved more premises and more staff, they'd need more mark-up to make the same profit.
