Writing: how to make sure I’m not romanticising serious mental health issues?

In my story I’ve made a character that has been through a lot but I feel like I’m romanticising the issue because she lives with her boyfriend and doesn’t leave the house at all. I want to have the seriousness of the situation included without degrading it or anyone who has gone through it.

Only serious and genuine answers please

Well I think putting an honest twist to whatever you’re writing will honestly make people relate to your writing. I’ve been in that type of situation before and I was afraid to leave for two reasons 1. I somewhat loved him and didn’t want to lose him 2. His parents would shower me with gifts so I would stay with him . In my opinion making something as true as possible is more relatable than sugar coating what goes on in those types of relationships and making it realistic will educate people to maybe not want to be in that situation
