Best German Beers (Light and Dark) at Target, Walmart, or HEB?

I'm relatively new to drinking in the US, I have been abroad to Germany and was able to drink German Beers over there. However, I still don't really know what I like that's actually sold in America, and wanted to see if anyone knew of good German beers that I could buy at a grocery store? I haven't had too much time to really try anything that I've liked and the isles at some of these grocery stores are incredibly daunting and confusing. I like Kolsch, but am open for any recommendations!

I was delighted to find Paulaner Salvator Doppel Bock at my grocery store. Best breakfast in the world on my days off.

It is true there are a few A FEW good local craft brewers. But an overwhelming amount are hideous and rely on clever names. Sticking with an established import is only prudent.

I find it highly unlikely that you're going to find good quality imported German beer at your local Wal*Mart. HOWEVER, there are HUNDREDS of smaller local craft brewers in the USA, and many of these produce beer that is quite unique and flavorful. Instead of looking for German beer, search for popular local brews from the area where you live now. I'm sure you'll find some that you'll like just as well as the imported stuff.
