How do you know how old a job opening is when different sites list different posting dates?

Whenever I'm job hunting I'll frequently see a job posted within the past few days on a board like Glassdoor or indeed. I'll then go over to the company's website to find the same job listed as having been posted over a month ago. Why does this happen? Should I assume that since one of the listings is new that the position is open again, or should I go with the oldest date and figure that the opening is too old to bother applying to?

In this economy? Apply no matter how old the posting is particularly if you are a professional or skilled worker.

I've been trying to hire someone with a certain professional license for eleven months. There might be 20 people a year that graduate or come to my city with this license but there are over 200 positions available. I've been running my business for 27 years and I've never experienced this much shortage before.

Hiring for entry-level/unskilled? Wages have gone way up but it's still pretty easy to fill those positions.

who cares. if the job is still listed on indeed , it means the company is still looking for applicants, that listing will shows as invalid once the company doesnt want any more applicants.
