The Epstein conspiracy theory?

Apparently this whole conspiracy theory began when Jeffrey Epstein claimed people were out to kill him after he was found with injuries to his neck in his jail cell, he made that story up so the jail staff wouldn't think he tried to kill himself and put him on suicide watch. Gullible people believed his story and thus this stupid conspiracy theory took off. Am I missing anything?
